磺基花菁5是一种深红色荧光团,广泛用于生物分子标记,最大激发波长为646 nm,最大发射波长为662 nm。激发波长超过600 nm且发射波长超过650 nm的远红色荧光标签对于成像技术很有价值,因为在这些波长下较低的背景自发荧光。此外,远红色荧光标记可以与近红色,橙色,绿色和蓝色标签同时成像,这对于多色成像是有利的。 

生物素或水溶性维生素H不仅在各种关键的代谢性细胞反应中起着必不可少的作用,而且对卵白蛋白糖蛋白抗生物素蛋白的亲和力也很高。抗生物素蛋白,抗生蛋白链菌素(抗生物素蛋白的细菌类似物)和中性抗生物素蛋白(去糖基化抗生物素蛋白)以高亲和力与生物素非合作结合。因此,sulfoCyanine5生物素偶联物可用于检测和定量不同来源样品中抗生物素蛋白,链霉亲和素和中性亲和素的生物素结合位点。

磺基花青素5生物素偶联物是一种水溶性试剂,其荧光独立于pH值4至pH10。生物素部分与荧光标签之间的柔性PEG3接头可与亲和素,链霉亲和素或中性亲和素结合,而不会造成空间问题。 

磺基花菁5生物素偶联物的主要应用包括成像(例如用于Western Bloting的一抗和二抗标记,免疫测定,细胞和组织化学,流式细胞仪),亲和力和解离常数测量,基于链霉亲和素的传感器等。
